The Yankees lost a legend this week as pitcher Whitey Ford passes away at the age of 91.
According to ESPN, Ford was the all-time winningest Yankee and lost a battle with Alzheimer’s disease passing in his family home in Long Island Thursday evening.
Ford, was a hometown native being born in 1928 and growing up in Queens where he made his major debut in 1950 and stayed with the Bronx bombers ever since.
The Hall-of-Famer was one of the best playoff pitchers ever with 10 World Series victories pitching 33 ½ consecutive scoreless innings totaling the most World Series starts (22), innings pitched (146), and strikeouts (94).
During his 16 seasons, Ford was tabbed a 10-time All-Star capturing Six World Series Championships, a CY Young and a World Series MVP with a career 2.75 ERA and a 236-106 record.
