Wisconsin Badgers starter quarterback Graham Mertz tests positive for the coronavirus

Chris's Corner

A week after the Wisconsin quarterback broke a program record for passing, he now tested positive for the coronavirus.

According to ESPN, Badgers quarterback Graham Mertz will undergo one more additional test called an antigen chain reaction test before fully being ruled out. If confirmed, Mertz would have to miss a minimum of 21 days.

Mertz, a redshirt freshman was nearly flawless last Friday night completing 20-for-21 passes for 248 yards with five touchdowns in a 45-7 beatdown of Illinois in Camp Randall.

The former Blue Valley North local kid set team records for single-game completion percentage (95%) and touchdown passes (5).

If he were to miss time, the Badgers are scheduled to visit Nebraska then play Purdue at home and head to Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Sophomore Chase Wolf would likely be the starter if Mertz were to miss significant time.
