In the aftermath of winning their first World Series Championship in team history, the Washington Nationals and manager Dave Martinez have agreed to a three-year extension Friday.
According to ESPN, the deal is worth up to $7.5 million and ties Martinez with the Curly’s through the 2023 season.
Last season was one for the team record books, exercising years of playoff disappointment by upsetting the NL Champion Los Angeles Dodgers in round one, sweeping the Cardinals in the NL Championship Series in round two to advance to their first World Series ever where they defeated the favored Houston Astros in seven games.
Now while their 2020 season has been disappointing, injuries, trades and free agent departures have played more of a part than management and it would be safely assumed that the Nat’s would take a step back this year but nevertheless, Washington has the pieces to build for a bright future.
Since taking over the Nationals position, Martinez has compiled a 175-149 record finishing second in the NL East Division with a 12-5 postseason record and a World Series Championship.
