Texas State's men’s basketball team played under a racially insensitive climate under Danny Kaspar, according to former players Thursday.
According to ESPN, former Bobcats point guard Jaylen Shead tweeted allegations that Kaspar would say remarks such as, “chase that chicken,” when he wanted them to run faster and told players if they weren’t smart enough they would “end up working at Popeyes.”
Kaspar also suggested he would have an international player “deported,” according to Shead who played a season under Kaspar at Texas State.
Another former Bobcat teammate, Alex Peacock confirmed Sheads’ statements as well as mentioning that Kaspar would use the N-word during practices because he quoted “if they can use it, so can I.”
Following these statements, Texas State Athletic Director Larry Teis said the school is opening an investigation into the horrifying matter.
According to ESPN, Peacock said players like him and Shead feared they would lose their scholarships or reputations if they expressed their concerns to other coaches or department heads.
Kaspar has been the Bobcats head coach since 2013.
