Apparently the state of Mississippi will not be hosting any SEC conference championships anytime soon.
SEC commissioner Greg Sankey announced Friday the conference will not use the state as a host location for any conference championships until their state flag is altered.
According to ESPN, the Mississippi state flag is the only state that has the Confederate symbol (a blue cross with 13 stars) on its flag.
The SEC last ran a championship event in the state in May 2016 when they hosted a softball tournament.
From that moment on, both Mississippi State University and Ole Miss University stopped flying their state flags during any sporting events but commissioner Sankey will need more than that given the current climate to include the state in the conference’s biggest events.
