Seattle Seahawks to waive Shaquem Griffin, Washington quarterback Alex Smith to make 53-man roster

Chris's Corner

The Seattle Seahawks and Washington Football team made two major roster moves Saturday.

According to ESPN, the Seahawks released Shaquem Griffin and Washington quarterback Alex Smith has made the 53-man roster this weekend.

Griffin has been one of the most inspirational stories in the modern NFL being drafted into the league despite playing with just one hand his whole college football career. Unfortunately, Griffin had to have his left hand amputated at age four because of amniotic syndrome.

He quickly proved to be more than just a feel-good story showing flashes of his pass-rush abilities near the end of each of his two seasons, totaling 16 total tackles largely as a back-up position-less player.

A two year starter at the University of Central Florida, Griffin totaled 17.5 sacks and four forced-fumbles for the Golden Knights so he surely will find an NFL home sooner than later.

As for Washington, Alex Smith making an NFL roster isn’t as much of a shock as him overcoming all the obstacles he’s had to face over the past year and a half.

Suffering a devastating leg injury during the 2017-18 season, the former Utah Ute had to be hospitalized and nearly had his leg amputated but the phenomenal man that his Smith battled back to make a full recovery that very few have and is potentially battling for a starting quarterback for the Washington Football team.

Nobody deserves more praise, respect, prayers and happiness than Alex Smith who’s demonstrated consummate professionalism, proven leadership and a natural winner in the league.
