The hits keep rolling for the San Francisco 49ers as cornerback Richard Sherman was placed on the Injured Reserve list after sustaining a calf injury in a 24-20 loss to the Arizona Cardinals Sunday.
According to ESPN, landing on the injured reserve list will sideline the future hall-of-fame cornerback for the next three games under the league’s new adjusted rules.
The Niners are lacking some serious secondary depth as opposite starter Jason Verrett is dealing with a hamstring injury and nickel corner Ahkello Witherspoon who would likely replace Sherman in the starter spot is currently in concussion protocol.
After a few down seasons, the veteran returned to form last season being named to the All-Pro second team recording 61 tackles, three interceptions and 11 passes defended while leading the loaded Niners defense all the way to the Super Bowl in a dream season.
San Francisco will be taking on Sam Darnold and the Jets in New Jersey this Sunday, Daniel Jones and the Giants in the following season in the same location and then Carson Wentz and the Eagles in Philly in week three.
