Ronaldo J’acara Souza who was scheduled to fight Uriah Hall Saturday night at UFC 249 in Jacksonville has tested positive for the coronavirus.
The UFC immediately pulled the 40-year-old along with his corner-men (who also tested positive) from the event.
Both the UFC and NASCAR have been adamant about returning to action despite the majority of sports being postponed (suspended indefinitely) due to the ongoing Covid 19 epidemic.
According to ESPN, J’acara arrived in Jacksonville Wednesday and informed UFC officials that one of his family members might have been infected with the virus.
He was then monitored and tested after doing weigh-ins and the traditional pre-standoff (social distance style) Friday.
According to the UFC, all the other 23 athletes scheduled to compete in UFC 249 tested negative.
J’acara is 26-8-0 all-time according to ESPN. UFC 249 is scheduled for this Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. eastern time on pay-per-view.
The fight will mark the first live UFC event since March 14th prior to the coronavirus epidemic and will feature no live audience.
