The Washington Redskins celebrated Juneteeth the right way by removing a statue from their facilities Friday.
The statue was that of George Preston Marshall who owned the franchise from its inception in 1932 to his death in 1969. According to ESPN, he was widely known as resisting integrating his team roster being the last owner in the NFL to do so in 1962.
This is a progressive move for a franchise that has spent decades experiencing heavy controversy/critique from its nickname, team name and logo.
