It looks like hockey will return sooner than expected as the NHL players association approved a proposal for a 24-team, conference-based, playoff format for the 2020-21 season.
According to Sports Illustrated, the agreement doesn’t include a timetable of return but does include the game-by-game format when the NHL does return.
Under this plan, the top four seeds of each conference will receive byes into the second round with the remaining 16 teams facing off in five-game series for the first round and all remaining series being seven-gamers.
According to Reuters, the league plans on using Hub cities instead of home sites pending plan approvals with, of course, no fans in attendance in concordance with coronavirus guidelines.
