NFL Power Rankings Week Three

Chris's Corner

Kansas City Chiefs

Record: (3-0).

Recap: Win Vs. Baltimore Ravens, 34-20.

Breakdown: How about those...Chiefs!!! Patrick Mahomes showed why he is the most important and best overall player in football annihilating the Ravens number one defense to the tune of 416 total yards and five touchdowns. He is the fastest player in NFL history to reach 10,000 passing yards and did so in a variety of ways: one of his touchdowns was to a fullback, the other was to his number three receiver and another was to a freaking offensive lineman. Clyde Edwards-Helaire continued an impressive rookie outing with 134 total yards and possibly the most jaw-dropping performance was the dynamic play of Kansas City’s defense holding Lama Jackson to a career-low 97 passing yards (3.5 yards per pass) while sacking him four times and forcing two fumbles. Chris Jones proved he was worth every penny wreaking havoc on the line forcing 2 sacks and a forced fumble and Frank Clark looks healthy finally finishing the game with a winning sack. When Andy Reid’s team is firing on all cylinders, they are literally unbeatable. Kansas City’s 12-game streak in the longest in franchise history and leads the NFL and Mahomes and the Crew will look to keep staying hot when they welcome Cam Newton and the Patriots to Kansas City Monday.

Seattle Seahawks

Record: (3-0).

Recap: Win Vs. Dallas Cowboys, 38-31.

Breakdown: Let Russ Cook! Nobody is playing better in the NFL than Russell Wilson. His 14 touchdowns in the first three games are the most in NFL history and he had five this game against a tough Cowboys squad. Tyler Lockett had an excellent game with a hat trick hauling in three touchdowns with 100 receiving yards and Seattle looks to be the NFC favorite. They do need to get Jamal Adams (groin), Chris Carson (knee sprain) and their secondary healthy and if their defense can simply just be average this team could reach the Super Bowl. Up next, Russ and Co. head down to South Beach to take on Fitzmagic and the Fins in Miami.

Green Bay Packers

Record: (3-0).

Recap: Win Vs. New Orleans Saints, 37-30.

Breakdown: No Adams, No problem: Rodgers vengeance tour continued in New Orleans as the Packers superstar carved up the Saints defense to the tune of 282 yards and three touchdowns. Number two receiver Allen Lazard stepped up and played exceptional in Davante Adams absence (injury-related) hauling in 146 yards and a touchdown and edge Za’Darius Smith (who was getting owned in the run game) came up with the game-changing play stripping backup Taysom Hill of the football and recovering it leading to the go-ahead Packers touchdown. The Lambeau legends will look to stay undefeated when they play Matt Ryan and the Falcons in Green Bay Sunday.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Record: (3-0).

Recap: Win Vs. Houston Texans, 28-21.

Breakdown: Iron sharpens iron and the Steel City may hold the league’s best defense absolutely dominating the Texans line channeling their own Infinity Gauntlet (defensive line) held by Thanos A.K.A (defensive coordinator Keith Butler) harassing Deshaun Watson into five sacks, an interception and holding Houston’s rush game to just 29 yards off 15 carries. Big Ben looked sloppy against a good defensive line but with James Conner rushing for 109 yards and JuJu Smith-Schuster continuing to play consistently (43 receiving yards and a score), the yellow and black are a sleeper contender in the AFC. Mike Tomlin’s crew introduces their defense to Derrick Henry and the Titans in Nashville this Sunday.

Baltimore Ravens

Record: (2-0).

Recap: Loss Vs. Kansas City Chiefs, 34-20.

Breakdown: Big what? Not Truzz, that’s for sure. Lamar Jackson had his worst outing as a pro passing for just 97 yards (a career-low) while the offense just scored once against a Chiefs defense that statistically was susceptible against the run (the Ravens’ strength). Baltimore’s offense line struggled to contain Chris Jones and Frank Clark giving up four sacks and generated zero pressure against Mahomes leading to no sacks. Jackson and the Ravens are now 0-5 when trailing by 10 points or more as well as winless when Big Truzz throws 25 times or more. Yes, the Ravens have had a ton of success with Jackson as the helm but seemingly are not built to comeback when trailing which ultimately could be a big problem come postseason time. As for now it's the regular season and I expect John Harbaugh’s crew to rebound quickly when they welcome Dwayne Haskins and the Washington Football Team to Baltimore next Sunday.

New England Patriots

Record: (2-1).

Recap: Win Vs. Las Vegas Raiders, 36-20.

Breakdown: This one’s for James White: in the aftermath of White’s father tragically dying in a car crash in Miami, the Patriots came out on a mission rumbling all over the Raiders with 250 rush yards (6.6-yards-per-carry) and two big touchdowns. New England’s defense wasn’t exceptional but forced two big turnovers which enabled Sony Michel (117 rush yards off nine carries) and Rex Burkhead to have a hat trick (two receiver, one rushing with 98 total yards) leading Bill Belichick’s crew to get back for the win column. Cam Newton and his best outfits in the league will take their talents to Kansas City when they take on Patrick Mahome and the Chiefs in an AFC Prime Battle.

Los Angeles Rams

Record: (2-1).

Recap: Loss Vs. Buffalo Bills, 35-32.

Breakdown: It’s kind of possibly morally wrong to put the Rams above the Bills since Los Angeles did lose but everybody knows Sean McVay’s crew was ROBBED on a horrible pass-interference call ultimately shortened the Rams amazing 25-point comeback enabling the Bills to squeeze out a victory. LA started badly but man, oh man, their second half was incredible as Aaron Donald wrecked havoc forcing two huge Josh Allen turnovers (interception, fumble lost) which ignited the Jared Goff and the offense throwing for 321 yards finding his favorite target Cooper Kupp (107 yards, a score) and Robert Woods (74 yards, a score) on their comeback. Also, the emergence of Darrell Henderson rushing for 114 yards (5.7 yards-per-carry) and a touchdown makes him the Rams number one back moving forward. Next up: the California boy's will most likely dismantle Danny Dimes and the Giants in New York.

Buffalo Bills

Record: (3-0).

Recap: Win Vs. Los Angeles Rams, 35-32.

Breakdown: Phew, that was close. The Bills sweated out a 35-32 win thanks, in part, largely to the refs on a blown P.I. call and secondarily cause of the pay of Josh Allen. Through two and a half quarters, Allen was a beast throwing for 311 yards and five total touchdowns but the bad was he also ignited the Rams offense giving the ball away twice on a poor decision pick and costly fumble. Buffalo’s once stagnant defense has looked spotty, particularly against the run but if the offense can lessen the back-breaking turnovers and guys like, Cole Beasley (100 receiving yards), rookie Gabriel Davis (81 receiving yards) and dynamic dynamo Devin Singletary (121 total yards) can continue producing they should have no problem going (4-0) when they play Derek Carr and the Raiders in Vegas Sunday.

Arizona Cardinals

Record: (2-1).

Recap: Loss Vs. Detroit Lions, 26-23.

Breakdown: Reality check gave Kyler Murray and the Cardinals a brisk wake up call as they finally lost Matt Stafford and the Lions on a closing field goal Sunday. Murray, after two straight excellent games, regressed to the mean throwing three bad interceptions (the third being a back-breaker). DeAndre Hopkins continues to dominate defenses finishing with 10 receptions for 137 yards and Arizonna’s defense played valiantly sacking Stafford four times and held Detroit's rush game to just 90 yards (off three-yards-per-carry) so as long as Murray doesn’t let the Cardinals beat themselves, I expect Kliff Kingsbury’s squad to slide back into the “w,” column in Carolina when they face Teddy Bridgewater and the Panthers Sunday.

New Orleans Saints

Record: (1-2).

Recap: Loss Vs. Green Bay Packers, 37-30.

Breakdown: The Saints are hitting all the wrong notes committing the most penalties in the NFL (eight this game), giving up big plays (72-yard pass completion from Rodgers to Allen Lazard) and turnovers (three fumbles, one lost) in a tight loss to the Packers. Running back Alvin Kamara was electric totaling 197 yards and two touchdowns as New Orleans ran ALL OVER the Packers porous rush defense with 122 yards as a team and I’m not exactly sure why Sean Payton’s squad just stopped doing that...They did and penalties/big plays allowed Aaron Rodgers and the Packers to make just enough plays passing-wise to squeeze out a victory. While Drew Brees’ stats looked like Drew Brees stats (29-36, 288 yards, three touchdowns), his arm and velocity still look extremely questionable and I’m just not sure if this team has the chops to be a legit contender. WhoDat will look to rebound against Matt Stafford and the Lions in Detroit Sunday.

Tennessee Titans

Record: (3-0).

Recap: Win Vs. Minnesota Vikings, 31-30.

Breakdown: Breathe in...now breathe out Titans fans..I suppose Mike Vrabel’s squad likes to play things close to the chest winning all three of their games by three points-or-less and I suppose they wouldn’t have it any other way. Derrick Henry stole the will of Vikings defenders en route to 119 yards finding pey dirt twice and Kalif Raymond had his best game of career hauling in 118 yards despite Ryan Tannehill’s struggles. Meanwhile, the Titans run defense was porous but did force three key turnovers (two interceptions, one fumble) that led kicker Stephen Gostkowski, the game’s MVP to kick the game-sealing field goal. After his God-awful start, the long-time Patriots converted on six-of-six field goal attempts including a 55-yarder on the road. Tennessee will try to win more convincingly when they welcome Big Ben and the Steelers to Nashville Sunday in a battle of undefeateds.

San Francisco 49ers

Record: (2-1).

Recap: Win Vs. New York Giants, 36-9.

Breakdown: The San Francisco 49ers, more like (39ers), missing a third of their starters, if not, more apparently didn’t need them as they wallypoped the Giants in a 27-point beatdown at Metlife. New York made back-up quarterback Nick Mullens look like the second-coming of Joe Montana torching the Giants secondary with 343 yards and a score and the run game (although not efficient) accounted for three touchdowns from three different players including the coming out party of rookie selection Brandon Aiyuk with 101 total yards and a touchdown. The defense, despite missing their most important pieces also played great, limiting Joe Judge’s crew to just 66. Yards. Rushing. With three turnovers and two sacks. Mike Shanahan’s team will look to stay afloat when they play one of the worst teams in the NFL: Carson Wentz and the Eagles in Philly.

Tampa Bay Bucs

Record: (2-1)

Recap: Win Vs. Denver Broncos, 28-10.

Breakdown: Somewhere, some place Captain Jack Sparrow may be smiling at the Bucs swoosh-buckling performance Sunday. Tom Brady had his best game in a Tampa slate uniform throwing for 297 yards and three touchdowns. Coach Bruce Arians finally started utilizing their tight ends Gronk (48 receiving yards)/ O.J. Howard (49 receiving yards) and Chris Godwin (pre-injury) had a nice game hauling in 64 receiving yards and a score. The strength of this time still is their defense which dominated the game from the jump finishing with seven sacks, two picks and forced fumble while limiting Melvin Gordon and the run game to just 42 rushing yards. Tampa Bay will look to have a complete game next Sunday as they face off against rookie Justin Herbert the Chargers at their new SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.

Las Vegas Raiders

Record: (2-1).

Recap: Loss Vs. New England Patriots, 36-20.

Breakdown: Vegas’s luck ran out the moment they stepped foot in Foxborough as the Patriots ground game ran all over the Raiders for 250 yards and two touchdowns. Derek Carr showed flashes of brilliance throwing deep dimes to Hunter Renfrow, Bryan Edwards and Foster Moreau but also moments of disappointment fumbling twice (one of a sack). Josh Jacobs had another solid outing totaling 83 yards but failed to reach the end-zone. After the upset of the Saints at home on a short-week it’s a tall task to try to go up to New England and steal a win so a loss was expected but sitting at 2-1 the Raiders are still on their way to the moon (shout-out Frank Sinatra), their schedule continues to get tougher as they welcome Josh Allen and the Bills into Allegiant Stadium in Vegas Sunday.

Dallas Cowboys

Record: (1-2)

Recap: Loss Vs. Seattle Seahawks, 38-31.

Breakdown: The “D” in Dallas stands for “defense-less,” as the Cowboys struggled to stop the high-potent Seahawks in Seattle surrendering 315 passing yards and five touchdowns to Russell Wilson and 412 total yards. Mike Nolan’s secondary looks awful through three games continuously having breakdowns and miscommunications so Jerry Jones’ squad may look to trade for a number one corner by the deadline. As for the offense, Dak Prescott played valiantly, despite having no run game to speak off, accounting for 498 total yards and three touchdowns. He did have three turnovers but that was a product of having no run game and no run calls (it seemed like) throughout the game. A quick shoutout to the embattled Aldon Smith who was reeking havoc on Russell Wilson finishing the game with three sacks and four quarterback hits. The Cowboys will try to regroup Sunday welcoming Baker Mayfield and the Browns back to Texas.

Chicago Bears

Record: (3-0).

Recap: Win Vs. Atlanta Falcons, 30-26.

Breakdown: Every little thing he does is magic, Foles mania is back upon us and we should all be so lucky as the veteran was brought in for Mitch Trubisky down 10 and all he did was throw three touchdowns and lead Chicago back to squeeze out a tight one in Atlanta. Allen Robinson, in a contract year, means business hauling in 10 receptions for 132 yards and a score and the Bears defense, while not great, forced a key turnover and collected a couple sacks en route to staying undefeated. Head coach Matt Nagy announced moving forward Nick Foles will be the Bears starting quarterback shelving the disappointing, underachieving Mitch Trubisky and Chicago may, FINALLY, be moving in the right direction when face off against Phillip Rivers and the Colts in Soldier Field.

Indianapolis Colts

Record: (2-1).

Recap: Win Vs. New York Jets, 36-7.

Breakdown: The Colts have had a Cupcake start of a schedule playing the Jaguars, Vikings and now, Jets, so realistically they should be undefeated but Frank Reich’s crew will take (2-1). Ageless wonder Phillip Rivers played precise completing 17-for-21 passes with 217 yards and a touchdown on an injured offense and rookie running back Jonathan Taylor continued to run hard rushing for 59 yards and his second touchdown in the NFL where the defense forced three interceptions off Sam Darnold, all of which were pick-sixes. The Colts remind me of your fourth favorite meal, it’s a solid, holistic, satisfying meal but isn’t anything special as of yet. Rivers and the crew will try to prove my statement wrong against Nick Foles and the Bears in Chicago Sunday.

Cleveland Browns

Record: (2-1)

Recap: Win Vs. Washington Football Team, 34-20.

Breakdown: The Browns gave the DawgPound reasons to roar Sunday as for the second-straight week Cleveland dominated the ground game behind the legs of Nick Chubb (108 yards, two touchdowns) and Kareem Hunt (46 yards, a touchdown) the only NFL team still with orange helmets dominated both sides of the ball rushing 158 yards while intercepting Dwayne Haskins three times, forcing two fumbles and sacking him three times enroute to getting back into the win column. Baker Mayfield avoided costly turnovers and bonehead plays en route to an easy victory and for the Browns sake they will hope for a repeat performance against Dak Prescott and the Cowboys in Dallas Sunday.

Carolina Panthers

Record: (1-2).

Recap: Won Vs. Los Angeles Chargers, 21-16.

Breakdown: Not so fast my friend! Left for dead where the Panthers and with no Christian Mccaffrey, Carolina just found a way to win. Backup back Mike Davis totaled 92 yards and a touchdown while the Panthers pressured Justin Herbert and the Bolts into three fumbles and a back-breaking pick. Mr. Conservative Teddy Bridgewater did his thing completing 78 of his passes with no turnovers and this could be a formula for at the very least, competing in each game. Matt Rhule and the crew will look to get back to .500 as they welcome Kyler Murray and the high-powered Cardinals to Carolina Sunday.

Los Angeles Chargers

Record: (1-2).

Recap: Loss Vs. Carolina Panthers, 21-16.

Breakdown: Reality hits hard and fast just a week after nearly upsetting the reigning Super Bowl Champ Chiefs, the Chargers could not get out of their own way Sunday fumbling the ball four times and throwing a pick in a tight loss. When is the moment we are all going to talk about how good Austin Ekeler is?! The undrafted running back is a BEAST totaling 143 yards and a touchdown in the loss. You know who else is good? Keenan Allen, that’s who. The underrated receiver put up numbers tabbing 13 receptions for 132 yards and a touchdown and Justin Herbert in his first start had some great (339 passing yards) and some bad (interception and a fumble lost) in week three. The Bolts will look to get back to .500 rocking the best threads in the league on Sunday against Tom Brady and the trending Bucs in Tampa Bay.

Washington Football Team

Record: (1-2).

Recap: Loss Vs. Cleveland Browns, 34-20.

Breakdown: Just two weeks removed from an inspiring comeback win against the Philly Eagles, the Washington Football Team has looked like the ending of the Sopranos: BAD. Second-year starter Dwayne Haskins has been a turnover machine throwing three interceptions alongwith two fumbles (losing one) in the team’s loss and the WFT’s strength of their team: defensive line, lost two key pieces in Chase Young (groin injury) and Matt Ioannidis (torn biceps) in Sunday’s lost. Despite these shortcomings, Terry McLaurin had another solid outing (83 receiving yards) as well as Antonio Gibson (54 rush yards, touchdown) and Dontrelle Inman (38 receiving yards, two touchdowns) played nice. Ron Rivera’s crew will try to stop the bleeding when they face Lamar Jackson and the Ravens at home on FedEx Field in Washington.

Detroit Lions

Record: (1-2).

Recap: Won Vs. Arizona Cardinals, 26-23.

Breakdown: Jump and shout the Lions found their roar again securing their first win off the leg of Matt Prater in a 26-23 slugfest. Detroit's defense finally started taking the ball away picking off Kyler Murray three different times and the much-anticipated return of receiver Kenny Golladay finally gave Matt Stafford a number one target to throw and boy did he, as Golladay’s first game of 2020 finished with 57 receiving yards a a big touchdown. Adrian Peterson, who apparently, doesn’t age totaled 85 tough yards and Matt Patricia’s squad finally found ways to win as opposed to lose in a tough road game. Now the Silver and Blue will look to continue their winning ways against Drew Brees and the sinking Saints in Detroit Sunday.

Miami Dolphins

Record: (1-2).

Recap: Won Vs. Jacksonville Jaguars, 31-13.

Breakdown: Facial hair enthusiasts were in high heaven as the battle of beard (Ryan Fitzpatrick) and handle-bar mustache (Gardner Minshew) faced off on Thursday Night Football and to no one's shock it was the beard that remained supreme as Fitzmagic’s Fins steamrolled the Jaguars in Jacksonville. Fitzpatrick was deadly accurate, finishing the game with only two incompetions to three total touchdowns and Brian Flores’ defense got after sacking Minshew four times and forcing two key turnovers (fumble lost and interception) in their big win. Miami will look to get back to .500 when they square off versus Russell Wilson and the Seahawks at home Sunday.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Record: (1-2).

Recap: Loss Vs. Miami Dolphins, 31-13.

Breakdown: More like Jacksonville Purrers as the only Jag to roar this game was James Robinson. The undrafted rookie has been a gem for Jacksonville thus far totaling 129 yards and a touchdown in the “L.” Minshew Magic wore off a little bit of pixie dust as the second-year starter turned it over twice and struggled to create consistency in the pass game. Doug Marron’s crew will try to regroup when they face the winless Bengals and rookie Joe Burrow in Cincy Sunday.

Denver Broncos

Record: (0-3).

Recap: Loss Vs. Tampa Bay Bucs, 28-10.

Breakdown: The Broncos just haven’t had a horse in any race they’ve played and Sunday’s beatdown at the hands of the Bucs was no different. Former Bronco Shaq Barrett wreaked havoc sacking backup Jeff Driskel twice and ultimately Denver’s line got destroyed giving up six sacks that ultimately would lead to two picks and a fumble.

Questionable play-calling led to only 14 rushes for 42 yards so unfortunately it’s cloudier than Seattle in the Fall for these Broncos all except for defensive lineman Shelby Harris who notched his first two sacks of the season in the loss. Vic Fangio’s squad will search for their first win as they play the lossless New York Jets in Metlife.

Minnesota Vikings

Record: (0-3).

Recap: Loss Vs.Tennessee Titans, 31-30.

Breakdown: Ooo gotta be quicker than that...the Vikings were this.close.to victory but made too many mistakes doomed them ultimately in a close loss. The good: was Dalvin Cook finally got it going rushing for 181 yards and a touchdown and rookie Justin Jefferson showed out hauling in 175 yards and his first NFL touchdown. The bad: Kirk Cousins was a human turnover reel committing three turnovers (two picks and a fumble) and the defense under Mike Zimmer has been awful giving up 444 total yards with Derrick Henry running wild on them (119 rush yards, two touchdowns) all game. Minnesota will still search for their first dub Sunday against Deshaun Watson and the Texans in Houston.

Houston Texans

Record: (0-3)

Recap: Loss Vs. Pittsburgh Steelers, 28-21.

Breakdown: At this point, I feel bad for Deshaun Watson. Watson fought valiantly throwing for 264 yards and two touchdowns with two dimes to receiver WIll Fuller and Randall Cobb but the Steelers defense may, very well, be the best defense in the entire NFL and Houston just couldn’t contain them. Texans lines gave up five big sacks while also allowing James Conner and the Steelers to rush for 169 yards. Bill O’ Brian needs to run the ball a million times more with their big fish acquisition David Johnson and need to start protecting Watson better if they wanna win anything in the future. The Texans will try to get their first win against Dalvin Cook and the Vikings in Minnesota Sunday.

Philadelphia Eagles

Record: (0-2-1).

Recap: Tie Vs. Cincy Bengals, 23-23.

Breakdown: The only thing the Eagles are flying too is the trash can cause they are hot garbage. Carson Wentz has been a turnover machine, the offensive line has been awful, every receiver or tight end for Philly gets hurt or is injured and the defense can’t stop anything. Coaching changes may be needed as well as trades for this mentally defused team. Next up they head to San Francisco to get sandwiched by the 49ers on Sunday Night Football.

Cincinnati Bengals

Record: (0-2-1).

Recap: Tie Vs. Philly Eagles, 23-23.

Breakdown: I don’t care what anyone says, a tie is worse than a win or a loss. Joe Burrow was sacked eight times, the Bengals ran for just 48 yards and STILL, this time had a chance to win. Joe Burrow is a stud but this team has a long way to go (offensive line rebuild, wide receiver, secondary and linebacker) before they can actually make some noise. Burrow and the boys head back home to welcome Minshew Magic and the Jags to Cincy Sunday.

Atlanta Falcons

Record: (0-3).

Recap: Loss Vs. Chicago Bears, 30-26.

Breakdown: Since blowing their 28-3 lead in the Super Bowl, the Falcons at 12-14 as a team and have already blown a huge lead this season. They did so again against the Bears blowing a 16-point lead at home against a mentally weak Chicago team. Speaking of mentally weak, when is Dan Quinn going to get fired? Until then, Atlanta might as well just pack it in each game cause they are wasting great talent like Calvin Ridley (110 receiving yards) each game they blow. The A-T-L will try to not blow a lead against Aaronn Rodgers and the Packers Sunday in Green Bay.

New York Giants

Record: (0-3).

Recap: Loss Vs. San Francisco 49ers, 36-9.

Breakdown: Danny Dimes?! More like Danny Nickels as the second-year quarterback continues to cough up the ball, this time twice and threw a pick too, ouch the Giants are bad. Big Blue travels to Inglewood to take on Jared Goff and the Rams Sunday.

New York Jets

Record: (0-3).

Recap: Loss Vs. Indianapolis Colts, 36-7.

Breakdown: The Jets lost another game and are the worst team in football. Fire the coach. Fire the GM and just pack in the season. No future analysis..they play Denver at home this Thursday.
