The New Orleans Saints will be seeking a new naming right for the SuperDome, the team announced Wednesday afternoon.
The Saints confirmed with ESPN their naming rights agreement with the Mercedes Benz will not be renewed after it expires next year.
New Orleans’ Greg Bensel, the senior vice president of communications told Forbes the team will be seeking a new name partner that both continues the legend that is the SuperDome but also builds on aid initiatives to the Gulf Coast region.
The Superdome has been around for 45 years and is not only the home of the New Orleans Saints. It has been the host arena for a college basketball championship, a heavyweight title fight, a Republican presidential convention and a visit from the Pope.
The writing was on the wall for New Orleans once Atlanta’s new stadium was built and Mercedes signed a lucrative 27-year deal with the Falcons.
