In an effort to join the rest of the world in 2020 NASCAR did something it should’ve done long long ago banning all confederate flags from all future racetrack properties.
According to CNN.com, racer Bubba Wallace praised NASCAR calling it a “special day,” as well as Bernice King (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s daughter) took to Twitter to praise NASCAR for “stepping on the right side of history.”
But the move hasn’t been all roses and rosè as Part-time NASCAR/RV/Truck racer Ray Ciccarelli announced Wednesday that he’s leaving NASCAR as a result of the ban claiming on a Facebook post that “he doesn’t agree with people kneeling for the flag and doesn’t have any issue with the confederate flag,” explaining people that do are “participating in political BS,” and he won’t participate in it.
Personally, I believe this is a surprisingly pleasant and productive move by NASCAR propelling the sport and its fans into a more accepting, progressive and present culture.
