The state of Mississippi is making much needed changes as the state legislature passed a bill that would remove the Confederate emblem from their flag.
Previous to this point, Mississippi was the only state to feature confederate insignia, according to CNN.com.
The ball now remains with Mississippi State Gov. Tate Reeves to sign in into law.
If Reeves signs this, the bill would establish a commission to develop a new flag design that would include the phrase, “In God, We Trust.”
Mississippi state voters would then vote on the new design in November.
This change occurred in the aftermath of 46-year-old George Floyd being murdered by a white police officer in Minneapolis and then Mississippi state running back Kylin Hill threatening to sit out the season unless the flag is changed.
