The Minnesota Vikings are taking a big blow on their defensive line as edge rusher Danielle Hunter will undergo season-ending neck surgery.
According to ESPN, Hunter’s injury was initially described as a “tweak,” by coach Mike Zimmer and was expected to miss six to eight weeks but the injury took a turn for the worse, sidelining him the rest of the 2020 season.
The 25-year-old has 54.5 sacks through five seasons with back-to-back Pro Bowl honors earning an extension in 2018 that would keep him in Minnesota the following three seasons, now coming up on the final year of that contract the Vikings will have a decision to either make him the highest paid edge this offseason or entertain trade offers.
It will be interesting to see what Mike Zimmer’s squad decides while Kirk Cousin and the Purple and Gold take on Aaron Rodgers and the Packers in Green Bay this Sunday.
