Minnesota took a big blow for their college football season as star receiver Rashod Bateman announced Tuesday he is opting out of the upcoming 2020 season.
According to ESPN, the Golden Gophers receiver joined Virginia Tech cornerback Caleb Farley as the only two players that have opted out of the college football season due to coronavirus concerns as well as to prepare for the coming NFL draft.
Bateman is the No. 19 NFL draft prospect according to ESPN’s draft analyst Todd McShay having a breakout sophomore year hauling in 60 receptions for 1,219 yards with 11 touchdowns.
Minnesota will be without two of their best receivers Tyler Johnson (drafted in the 2020 NFL draft) and Bateman for the coming season.
