In the MLB, New York Mets outfielder decided that his season was over moments before the start of the team’s game.
On Sunday afternoon, Yoenis Cespedes did not report to Truist Park in Atlanta for Sunday’s game against the Braves according to general manager Brodie Van Wagenen.
According to ESPN, Van Wagenen said he learned of Cespedes' decision from his agent literally during the Braves-Mets game.
Previous to the announcement, Cespedes did not reach out to management or frankly anyone from the team that he was opting out of the 2020 season due to coronavirus concerns.
The 34-year-old has had quite a difficult time starting in any MLB lineups due to numerous leg injuries, heel surgeries and ankle-recovering with his only game this season being his first since July 20th, 2018.
