Odell Beckham Jr. is in the news but for all the wrong reasons Thursday as his alma mater has self-imposed penalties on themselves.
According to Sports Illustrated, the school is docketing itself eight scholarships over a two-year period and reducing recruitment visits, evaluations and communication after a nearly two-year investigation uncovered booster payments to the father of a football player.
The school also announced a two-year banning of former alumni star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. after he distributed $2,000 worth of $100 bills following LSU’s win over the Clemson Tigers in the National Championship.
According to the school, the penalties will not impact the team’s ability to sign the max of 25 newcomers per year but in terms of acquiring superstar talent that will certainly take a hit for the immediate future.
