Legendary coach Eddie Sutton passes at age 84

Legendary college basketball coach Eddie Sutton passed away at age 84 Saturday afternoon.


Sutton died at his home in South Tulsa, Oklahoma, surrounded by his family (loved ones), according to the statement.


He was announced to be inducted in Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall-of-Fame 2020 class along with Lakers legend Kobe Bryant.


According to ESPN, the Bucklin, Kansas native began his career as an Oklahoma State assistant for a season, became a high school coach for seven seasons at Tulsa Central then was hired for his first head coaching position at Southern Idaho. After fulfilling that position for four seasons he transitions to be the head coach of Creighton then Arkansas.


Sutton really made his mark at Kentucky and Oklahoma State where he reached 2 Final Four’s, an AP Coach of the Year, a 2x Big 12 Coach of the Year and SEC coach of the Year.


According to Basketball-Reference, he amassed an incredible 800 wins, won college basketball coach-of-the-year twice and was a nine-time conference coach-of-the-year during his career.
