In quite a shocker announcement, Los Angeles Clippers forward Montrezl Harrell was named the 2019-2020 NBA Sixth Man-of-the-Year award Friday evening.
According to ESPN, Harrell is in rare company being the first big man to win the award since 6-foot-10 Lamar Odom did so with the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2010-11 season.
The former Louisville Cardinal earned 58 first-place votes and a total of 397 points to win the award.
Many believed that guard Dennis Shroeder of the Oklahoma City Thunder who came in second with 35 first-place votes and 328 points, should’ve won the award averaging 18.9-points, 3.6-boards, 4.0-assists in 65 games.
Nevertheless, in this fifth season with the Clippers, the 6-foot-8 forward averaged a career high with 18.6-points and 7.1-boards in 63 games.
Some thought his running mate off the bench, guard Louis Williams would take home the award for the fourth time averaging 18.2-points, 3.1-rebounds and 5.6-assists in 65 games but his Bubble Blunder being caught going to a Strip Club optically did not sit well with voters.
Still, they had a historic season being the first reserve duo to average 18-points each off the bench in NBA history.
The Clippers are currently up one game to none over the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference quarterfinals.
