The L.A. Galaxy released midfielder Aleksandar Katai following racist social media posts by his wife, Tea, the team announced Friday.
According to ESPN, Tea Katai made an Instagram post Tuesday mocking protests related to the death of George Floyd last week.
One post showed a Police SUV attempting to drive through protestors in New York and another showed an individual carrying a bag of Nikes with the caption, “Black Nikes Matter.”
In a one-sentence news release the team said it had “mutually agreed to part ways,” with the midfielder.
The 29-year-old Katai posted a message calling the posts a “mistake from his family,” and apologized to any/all who have been offended.
The Galaxy posted their firm stance against racism, bigotry and intolerance via social media posts.
