Jacksonville Jaguars to release running back Leonard Fournette after just three seasons

Man what a difference a few years makes and no one knows that better than the Jacksonville Jaguars who just released running back Leonard Fournette Monday.

According to ESPN, the move ends a tumultuous run with the embattled Fournette who rushed for 2,631 yards and 17 touchdowns in three short seasons. Sources close to the team tell ESPN that Jacksonville didn’t pick up the running back’s fifth-option during the off-season and this summer were actively trying to find a trade partner before finally folding and letting him go.

If Fournette clears waivers, he would become a free agent and if signed, the team would owe him $4.17 million the coming season.

While the former LSU Tiger standout did not have any off-field issues, his alleged lack of effort, lack of desire to develop and public commentary towards the team front office/coaches ultimately was enough for the Jaguars to move on.

Just three short seasons ago, Jacksonville had a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter of the 2017 AFC Championship and ultimately the Superbowl.

Since that unbelievable franchise-changing season, the Jaguars have released Blake Bortles, Allen Robinson, AJ Bouye as well as trading Jalen Ramsey, Calais Campbell and now letting go of Leonard Fournette.

Adding salt to the wound, the season they took Fournette fourth overall while missing out on the likes of Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson but nevertheless Fournette will have plenty of suitors most highly: the Washington Football Team, Tampa Bay Bucs, New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs and more.
