Iowa football made the right decision parting ways with longtime football strength coach Chris Doyle Monday.
According to ESPN, Doyle had led the Hawkeyes’ strength and conditions program since 1999 but was placed on administrative leave June 6 after a large number of former/current players spoke out about racial mistreatment in the program.
Doyle was the nation’s highest-paid strength coach at $800,000 annually and will continue to receive his salary (plus benefits) for 15 months until he finds employment elsewhere.
Iowa athletic director Gary Barta apologized to former/current student-athletes, coaches and staff for any “negative experiences,” they had within the Hawkeye football program.
Meanwhile, Raimond Briathwaite will step in as the interim director of strength and conditioning for the time being. He has served under Doyle since 2008.
