In a shocking move the Rockets Daryl Morey announced Thursday that he’s stepping down as the team’s general manager.
Since taking the job in 2007, Morey has been one of the winningest general managers of the last decade particularly in Rockets history too.
According to ESPN, under Morey, H-Town had a .615 winning percentage, good for second-highest in that span. The Rockets also had the league’s longest consecutive playoff appearance streak with eight advancing in the Western Conference playoffs in each of the past four years.
This is a huge blow for a team that has two superstars in Russell Westbrook and James Harden but the franchise seems to turning the page welcoming a new chapter where executive vice president of basketball operations Rafael Stone to general manager while H-Town owner Tilman Fertitta is still searching for the Rockets next coach following the mutual departure of former coach Mike D'antoni.
