Well it looks as though ace pitcher Justin Verlander’s season is over as the Astros pitcher will undergo season-ending Tommy John Surgery.
According to ESPN, veteran righty hasn’t pitched since his season debut on July 24th. It’s only the second time in Verlander’s career he’s landed on the IR, the first being the 2015 season.
The 37-year-old is coming off of another terrific 2019 season in which he was awarded his second American League Cy Young Award after leading the league with 21 wins against only six losses. He also led the league in starts (34), innings pitched (223) and WHIP (0.803).
The future Hall-of-Famer is under contract with the ‘Stros through the 2021 season at $33 million then becomes a free agent.
