Former New York Jet Christian Hackenberg to give baseball a shot

Former New York Jet quarterback Christian Hackenberg is pursuing a secondary dream of a baseball career after washing out of the NFL.


According to ESPN, the former Penn State Nittany Lion throws right-handed and reportedly has a 90mph fastball according to his agent.


Before landing a football scholarship, the Lehighton, Pennsylvania native was a dual athlete at Fork Union Military Academy (VA) playing football and baseball as mainly a widely talented by erratic relief pitcher.


According to MaxPreps, he struck out 33 batters with 40 walks in 25 ⅔ with a 7.36 ERA. As a hitter he had a much bigger impact hitting 10 home runs with a .378 average in 148 at-bats.


In the last decade, Hackenberg is at the top of the NFL’s bust list unfortunately not having played a single NFL snap after being drafted in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft.


He is just the third quarterback since 1967 to not play a single snap after being drafted in the first/second round of an NFL Draft, according to ESPN stats and info.
