The NBA family is attempting to instrument real change during the 2020 NBA playoffs.
According to the LA Times, the league along with the players coalition led by point God Chris Paul, collectively came up with a three commitments Friday which are the following:
The league, players and owners will establish a coalition “focused on a broad range of issues including, increased access to voting, promoting civic engagement and advocating for meaningful police and criminal justice reform.”
Teams that have arenas will use those buildings as voting centers if possible.
The league, players and broadcast partners will work on developing advertisements promoting “greater civic engagement in national and local elections raising voter awareness.”
The agreement came in response to two days of no basketball following the Milwaukee Bucks decision to boycot their game five against the Orlando Magic in concordance with the murder of Jacob Blake by a white Kenosha, Wisconsin police officer.
That boycott snowballed as no teams played games until these agreements were formed and publicized. Now the NBA playoffs are resuming until we crown an eventual champion.
