Amidst Denver Broncos quarterback Drew Lock being sidelined with a shoulder injury, the team announced Tuesday the signing of veteran Blake Bortles on a one-year deal.
According to ESPN, Bortles will start the mandated COVID-19 Protocols, which will include multiple tests spread over four days.
The 28-year-old was last seen backing up Jared Goff with the Los Angeles Rams but now potentially will be called on to start in the absence of Lock’s lingering shoulder injury.
The No. 3 draft pick out of the 2014 NFL Draft, Bortles spent his first five seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars playing 75 games and throwing for 17,646 yards with 103 touchdowns to 75 interceptions.
His most success came in 2018 when he and a terrific defense led the Jags all the way to the AFC Championship upsetting the Pittsburgh Steelers and being a few plays away from upsetting the New England Patriots en route to the Super Bowl.
