Debate spurns whether the NBA return is good for the Black Lives Matter movement

Chris's Corner

There has been much debate from players whether the NBA season would benefit or distract the Black Lives Movement and the latest split was between that of Kyrie Irving and Austin Rivers.

The injured Brooklyn Nets guard made an impassioned plea for players to make a stand and sit out the resumption of the season, according to ESPN.

But the Houston Rockets guard made the case the opposite would benefit more stating “a lot of NBA players need their paychecks, noting Kyrie made, ‘99%,’ more than most in the league,” and that players earning their salaries would allow them to financially aid the cause while devoting their time/energy to the movement through the sport.

Several players sided with each party notably guy like: Clipper swingman Louis Williams more aligning with Rivers while Lakers center Dwight Howard sided more with Kyrie Irving.

This commentary comes a few days after 100 players (including several stats) took place in a 90-minute conference call towards concerns with the NBA’s return at the Disney Complex as well as social issues related to the Black Lives Movement.

According to league spokesman, Mike Bass, “We (they) understand the players’ concerns and are working with the Players’ Association on finding the right balance to address them.”

The NBA is set to return at Disney’s Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida, July 31st.
