Dallas Edge Aldon Smith reinstated to the league

Chris's Corner

The NFL announced Wednesday that recently signed Cowboys’ defensive end Aldon Smith has been reinstated.

The conditional reinstatement allows the 30-year-old to participate in virtual meetings/activities with Dallas beginning Tuesday. According to ESPN, the former Mizzou Tiger has not played in the NFL since with the Raiders in 2015 because of legal substance abuse issues (along with major off-the-field issues).

As part of the one-year-deal, Smith will now receive 90,000 from the Cowboys and can be eligible to up $440,000 if he participates in off-season workouts, pre-season games and of-course plays in regular season games.

Dallas took the gamble on this wildcard because when Smith was last playing he showed flashes of pass-rushing dominance collecting 47.5 sacks in five seasons (including a 19.5 year) with the 49ers and Raiders, per Pro-Football Reference.
