Dallas Cowboys lose linebacker Leighton Vander Esch and tight end Blake Jarwin to injuries

Chris's Corner

The Dallas Cowboys are suffering a major injury to their already below-average defense as linebacker Leighton Vander Esch will undergo surgery for a broken collarbone suffered in a loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Inglewood Sunday night.

According to ESPN, Vander Esch will have surgery Tuesday and is expected to miss 6-8 weeks.

Another Cowboy’s season is over as starting tight end Blake Jarwin tore his ACL in his right-knee during the same game.

Vander Esch, the former Boise State Bronco, will have his collarbone repaired with a plate and screws similar to former Dallas star quarterback Tony Romo’s injury in 2015.

The 24-year-old made the Pro-Bowl after an exceptional Rookie Year but then missed seven games with a neck injury the next season and is likely to miss half this current season with the same injury.

As for Jarwin, the 26-year-old looked to be the Cowboys number one option at tight end after legendary tight end Jason Witten departed for the Las Vegas Raiders.

Now the onus is on Dalton Schultz and Blake Bell to step up in his absence.

The (0-1) Dallas will look to get back in the win column next week when they take on the the Atlanta Falcons in JerryWorld.
