In a surprising move the Dallas Cowboys signed Andy Dalton to a one-year, $7 million dollar ($3 million guaranteed) deal.
The 32-year-old spent nine seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals reaching the playoffs five seasons. With the Bengals selecting LSU star QB Joe Burrow with the No.1 pick, Dalton’s fate was sealed being released a few short days later.
Dalton should make a smooth transition as a backup quarterback for the Cowboys: he’s from Katy, TX, played his college football for TCU down in Fort Worth and already has a home in Dallas.
If for some reason a long-term can’t be reached with franchise QB Dak Prescott, Dalton can serve as a perfect bridge quarterback. With Cincinnati he started 133 games (going (70-61-2) completing 62% of his passes with 204 touchdowns to just 118 interceptions and a 87.5 QB rating, according to Pro-Football Reference.
