The college football world had three major happenings over the weekend, the first being in Clemson, South Carolina.

The coronavirus has sky-rocketed as Clemson University announced Friday that 14 football players tested positive for the virus bringing the total number of cases to 37 or roughly one-third of the roster.

The new 14 are required by CDC guidelines to isolate for at least 10 days, according to ESPN.

Moving from Clemson to Manhattan, KS, as a group of student-athletes of color said they will not participate in “any athletic related events,” unless the school reprimands the student who mocked the death of George Floyd via Twitter.

According to ESPN, Jaden McNeil tweeted Thursday afternoon, “Congratulations to George Floyd for being drug-free for the entire month.”

The insensitive, inappropriate and down-right stupid tweet received state as well as country-wide criticism particularly from the football team including players: Skylar Thompson (Quarterback), Tee Denson, Walter Neil Jr. (Cornerback) and Joshua Youngblood (Receiver) as well as women’s basketball guard Christianna Carr.

According to ESPN, university president Richard Myers will be launching a review of all options.

Moving from Manhattan to Eugene, Oregon as the University of Oregon and Oregon State will be making major changes to a long-standing rivalry.

According to ESPN, the universities will no longer use the phrase “Civil War,” to describe their rivalry.

Former Oregon quarterback Dennis Dixon was the catalyst for this change according to university athletic director Rob Mullens.

The joint announcement detailed a “much-needed” change to a name that “represents a connection to a war fought to perpetuate slavery.”

The Oregon-Oregon State rivalry ranks fifth in college football for the most games played.
