Facing an up-hill battle, running back Kareem Hunt has conquered agreeing to a two-year, $13 million dollar extension Tuesday.
According to ESPN, the deal is up to $8.5 million in guaranteed dollars and gives the embattled running back a second chance to validate his worth in this league.
The former Toledo Rocket rushed for 179 yards while catching 37 passes with three scoring touchdowns while serving an 8-game suspension for violating the NFL’s conduct policy after video surfaced of him kicking a woman in downtown Cleveland in February of 2018.
He then was promptly released by the Kansas City Chiefs and shortly thereafter picked up by Cleveland Browns General Manager (a former Chief) John Dorsey.
This off-season Hunt was pulled over on Jan. 21 and police found a small amount of marijuana in a backpack of the backseat of his vehicle but that did not affect his status with the team.
Since being drafted in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the 25-year-old has rushed for 2,330 yards and 17 touchdowns in three seasons appearing in 35 of 48 games.
Hunt will likely be the backup to Browns star running back Nick Chubb heading into the 2020 season.
