Clemson to change the name of honors college amid players protests

Chris's Corner

In the aftermath of a petition by Clemson stars Deshaun Watkins and DeAndre Hopkins, the University announced Friday effective immediately the removal of John C Calhoun from the school's honor college.

According to Yahoo Sports, the petition was started by Clemson student Roann Abdeladl to remove US Vice President John C Calhoun’s name from the Calhoun Honors College because Calhoun was both a slave owner and slave advocate back in those days.

Tigers stars Watkins and Hopkins found this petition via twitter and retweeted it causing the movement to really snowball it from there.

The protest to change the name was ongoing for years according to the report but within the recent aftermath of the George Floyd death along with countless other acts of police brutality and racial injustice forced the school to act swiftly and so they did.
