Cincinnati Reds to suspend Thom Brennaman after using anti-gay slur during live broadcast

Chris's Corner

The Cincinatti Reds are in the news for all the wrong reasons as broadcaster Thom Brennaman has been suspended from working Reds games after using an anti-gay slur on air during the Royals-Cincy game Wednesday night.

According to ESPN, Brennaman used the slur moments after the Fox Sports Ohio feed returned from commercial break before the top of seventh inning of a double-header versus Kansas City.

Brennaman issued a formal apology quickly for the Cincinnati Enquirer noting that he had no idea the word was rooted in such “hate and violence,” and that he is “ashamed for being so insensitive and careless.”

Reds players and the organization went to social media and announcements to voice their public support for the LGBTQ community citing the incident does not and will never represent the team or their values.

Brennaman has been with the Reds announcing team since 2007 but that certainly could be in jeopardy now.
