Cincinnati Reds play-by-play broadcaster Thom Brennaman announces retirement

Chris's Corner

To nobody’s shock at all, Cincinnati Reds play-by-play broadcaster Thom Brennaman has resigned as the Reds Broadcast Friday.

According to ESPN, just one month removed from using an Anti-Gay Slur on air just before the seventh inning of a Reds-Royals game, Brennaman after consulting with his family has called it a career.

The Brennaman family has been a Cincinnati mainstay for nearly 60 years beginning with Marty Brennaman who joined the Reds Radio Team in 1974, while he many great games to call with the Reds he also remained in controversy for his comments regarding Pete Rose’s gambling scandal, a negative comment towards the Reds rival St Louis Cardinals and the insensitive LGBTQ comment towards the end of his career. He retired in 2019 after serving 45 years of the primary play-by-play caller.

Like father, like son, Thom joined the Reds radio airwaves in 2006 following his father’s footsteps and like Marty, got caught making an insensitive LGBTQ comment during this 2020 season.

Thom was involved in the Reds Radio team for 14 seasons, now they will look elsewhere.
