The Chiefs took Clyde Edwards-Helaire with the 32nd pick (last pick) of the 2020 NFL Draft.
The move was a shocker for the Chiefs Kingdom having bigger needs on the defensive end particularly at cornerback, middle linebacker and pass-rushing/defensive-tackle. In addition, CEH was widely renowned by the majority of NFL media draft experts as the third to fourth-best prospect behind the likes of Georgia’s De’Andre Swift, Ohio State’s J.K. Dobbins and Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor.
With a controversial pick selected by Kansas City there has been much-warranted scrutiny. To me, here are CEH’s strengths and weaknesses ahead of the NFL season.
Strengths: Speed, ability to break tackles, shortness to hide behind lineman, cut-and-go ability, catching the football, low-center of gravity, route-running and ball-security.
Weaknesses: Average power among the goal-line or short-yardage situations, poor pass-protection skills, short arms for a limited catch-radius and can’t take long runs to the house because of weight.
Player Comparisons:
If he develops his ceiling is a Maurice Jones-Drew, Brian Westbrook, Alvin Kamara-type.
If he cannot develop, he could potentially be a bust like a: Devonta Freeman, Dion Lewis, Jacquizz Rogers, Dexter McCluster, Doug-Martin-type.
Chiefs Kingdom will just wait & see!
