Chicago Bulls to hire Billy Donovan to be their next head coach

Chris's Corner

The Chicago Bulls made a splash Tuesday announcing the signing of Billy Donovan as their next head coach.

According to ESPN, Bulls executive VP Arturas Karnisovas aggressively pursued Donovan after he left the Oklahoma City Thunder where he sold Donovan on a partnership with a young talented roster and potential future.

The 55-year-old, Donovan, was the National Basketball Coaches Association Co-Coach of the Year with Milwaukee’s Mike Budenholzer for the 2019 season.

This season, the former Florida Gator coach did one of the best coaching jobs in the league taking a core of Chris Paul and a bunch of nobodies and lead them to a 44-28 record securing the fifth seed in the Western Conference Playoffs after every media outlet gave them a 0.01% chance to make the postseason.

In five seasons, Donovan accumulated a 243-157 record (.0608% winning percentage) making the playoffs every single season.

Previous to Donovan’s hiring, the Chicago Bulls went 22-43 last season and ultimately were plain terrible under Jim Boylen going 39-84 since being hired in 2018.

With the hiring of Donovan, the Windy City is hoping to build a playoff contender from the ground up slowly beginning next season.
