The hits keep coming for the Chargers as safety Derwin James will undergo season-ending knee surgery Wednesday.
According to ESPN, James was injured During Sunday's practice and received a second opinion which confirmed the worst case scenario: surgery that will sideline the star safety for six to eight months.
The former Florida State Seminole was drafted 17th overall in the 2018 NFL draft and had a stellar rookie campaign with 105 total tackles, 3.5 sacks and 3 interceptions.
The following year the 24-year-old battled injuries and only appeared in five games totaling 34 tackles.
Despite this, the Chargers still have the likes of Pro-Bowl corner duo Casey Hayward and Chris Harris Jr. along with a young budding star in Desmond King II so head coach Anthony Lynnn likes their chances still.
