Fresh off a 15-point bulging of the Orlando Magic, the Milwaukee Bucks’s Giannis Antetokounmpo was named the 2019-2020 NBA Defensive Player of the Year Tuesday.
According to ESPN, the Greek Freak won the award in a landslide receiving 75 first-place votes from the panel of 100 sportswriters and broadcasters.
The Lakers’ Anthony Davis came in second with 14 first-place votes and Jazzs’ Rudy Gobert (a two-time winner himself) finished third with six first-place votes.
Antetokounmpo led the Bucks to the best defensive team in the league averaging 13.6-rebounds, a block and a steal in 30 minutes per game.
The 25-year-old held opponents to just 36% shooting according to second spectrum data and with the award he became just the fifth player to win both an NBA MVP and Defensive Player of the Year award in his career.
He joins the likes of Michael Jordan, Kevin Garnett, Hakeem Olajuwon and David Robinson.
Milwaukee’s next goal will be reaching the finals and as for the Greek Freak he will likely win his second MVP award in the later couple weeks.
