Blackhawks fire president, CEO Mcdonough in shocking move

Chris's Corner

The Chicago Blackhawks have fired team President and CEO John McDonough Tuesday. McDonough was hired by the Blackhawks in 2007 and had a large role in Chicago’s success winning Stanley Cups in 2010, 2013 and 2015. He came to the Blackhawks after spending 24 seasons with the Chicago Cubs.

The writing was on the wall for McDonough after Chicago elected to part ways with their head coach after missing the playoffs the last two seasons. According to ESPN, Daniel Wirtz (son of Blackhawks’ owner Rocky Wirtz), will serve as the interim president in the meanwhile. Presidential roles include: business operations, partnerships and fan experience.

Under McDonough, Chicago ranked first in NHL home attendance with a team-record 531 sellouts. This move puts the hot seat squarely on general manager Stan Bowman as the only remaining piece left of the championship regime.
