College Football continues to make tectonic changes as both the Big Ten Conference, The Pac-12 and Mountain West Conference announced Monday they are postponing their fall sports seasons due to concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Bleacher Report, 12 of 14 Presidents from the Big Ten voted against playing the coming college football season (the two that voted for the season were Iowa and Nebraska and have vowed to find a conference to play in if the Big Ten will not).
As for the Mountain West Conference, commissioner Craig Thompson said that the conference will “navigate the pandemic together, overcome obstacles and return to intercollegiate athletics at the earliest opportunity.”
As for the Pac-12, the CEO group, made up of one president or chancellor of each of the 12 universities will meet Tuesday but sources close to sports personality Dan Patrick have confirmed that the conference will postpone their fall sports too bringing the number to four conferences that have elected to post their entirety Fall sports due to coronavirus concerns.
Now collegiate football stars such as Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, Ohio State’s Justin Fields have voiced their opposition to this decision wanting the opportunity to play but that still hasn’t dissuaded most conferences but the ball remains in the field of the Big 12 and SEC who are the two remaining major Power Five conferences to not make a definite decision aside from playing so that will definitely be something to look forward to in the coming weeks.
