The Chicago Bears are reportedly declining the fifth-year option for quarterback Mitch Trubisky, the second overall pick of the 2017 draft, according to the NFL Network.
Trubisky has had a rocky three seasons being the franchise QB for the Windy City. After a promising 2018 season where he led the Bears to a 12-4 record and earned a Pro Bowl recognition; 2019 was not so wonderful.
He regressed immensely completing 63% of his passes for just 17 touchdowns (fifth worst) and 10 interceptions and a 39.5 QBR (out of 100, which was sixth worst). The regression enabled Chicago to trade former Jaguars/Eagles quarterback Nick Foles to compete for the starting role next season.
For his career, Trubisky is 23-18, completing 63% of his passes with a 48-29 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
In related news, John Ross (Bengals), Leonard Fournette (Jaguars), Corey Davis (Titans), Solomon Thomas (49ers) all had their fifth-options declined whereas Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs) and Myles Garrett (Browns) had their options exercised.
