Baker Mayfield, J.J. Watt support kneeling stance during National Anthem

Chris's Corner

With the spread of protests, countless athletes have taken to social media to voice their opinions and the latest of them Cleveland quarterback Baker Mayfield and Houston defensive end J.J. Watt had quite the clap back to their fans.

On an Instagram post a fan rhetorically asked Mayfield if he was going to be kneeling this season to which he responded, “pull your head out, I absolutely am.” Mayfield went a step further saying he doesn’t care if he loses fans, he will stand for what he believes is right by kneeling against social injustice/police brutality.

As for Watt, a fan on Twitter put words into Watt’s mouth saying he would not kneel to which Watt quickly clapped back saying, “A) Don’t speak for me and B) If you still think it’s been about disrespecting the flag or military, you clearly haven’t been listening,” with a link to elaborate further.

Personally, I love athletes voicing their opinion of cultural events that actually matter beyond the incredible entertainment that is American Sports and I hope to see more of it each week.
