Arizona Wildcats Hall-of-Fame head coach Lute Olson passes away at the age of 85

The Arizona Wildcats lost a school titan as head coach Lute Olson has died at the age of 85.


According to ESPN, Olson was hospitalized last year after suffering a stroke and was recently moved into hospice care.


Olson was a legend in Tucson going 589-187 in 24 seasons with the Wildcats and putting Arizona on the college basketball map guiding ‘Zona to four Final Four appearances, 23 consecutive NCAA Tournaments and 11 Pac-10 titles including a national championship in 1997.


He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002 and the Hall of Fame in 2006 with a status being erected outside the McKale Memorial Center in Tucson in 2018.


Players and former Arizona great coaches took to social media to give both their condolences and praise toward the great man that was Lute Olson.
