Arizona D-Backs deal Starling Marte to the Marlins and Robbie Ray to the Blue Jays

Chris's Corner

The Arizona D-Backs have been a busy team during the trade dead-line and today has been no exception as they dealt outfielder Starling Marte to the Miami Marlins Monday.

According to ESPN, Marte is hitting .311 with 23 runs scored this season despite suffering the death of his wife from a heart attack during the off-season.

The D-Backs received Caleb Smith, Humberto Mejia and a player to be named.

Arizona also sent tumultuous pitcher Robbie Ray to the Toronto Blue Jays for pitcher Travis Bergen.

Ray had an up and down career with the D-Backs having a breakout season in 2017 going (15-5) with a 2.89 ERA but is a career 40-45 pitcher with a blistering 4.25 ERA.

Arizona is currently 15-21 sitting in the cellar of the NL West.
