Well it looks like DeAndre Hopkins is already making an impact before playing a regular season snap signing a two-year extension worth up to $54.5 million Tuesday.
According to ESPN, Hopkins' deal includes up to $42.5 million in guaranteed dollars being the highest non-quarterback deal in NFL history.
The 28-year-old receiver clearly is now the air apparent to Cardinals legend Larry Fitzgerald and that is well worth it for a rebuilding Arizona squad.
Since being drafted 27th in the 2013 NFL Draft, the former Clemson Tiger has shined in the NFL being PFF (Pro Football Focus) third highest-graded receiver with the third-most receiving yards and catches and second-most touchdowns and targets trailing only receiver legends like Atlanta’s Julio Jones and New Orleans’ Michael Thomas.
Arizona acquired Hopkins in an off-season blockbuster trade with the Houston Texans and the Cardinals expect the same production he put out in H-Town to the desert.
In 2019, Hopkins hauled in 1,165 yards and seven receiving touchdowns off 104 targets. It was his third consecutive 1,000-yard season and his fifth in six seasons.
This was a genius move for an organization all in on second-year quarterback Kyler Murray and a rebuilding defense in a tough NFC West Division.
