The San Francisco 49ers locked up a key piece to their franchise turnaround as General Manager John Lynch and the team reached a five-year contract extension Wednesday.
According to ESPN, Lynch’s new contract runs through 2024 and is a huge positive for a franchise that had four straight 10-loss seasons before reaching the Super Bowl becoming the first team ever to do that.
Lynch was instrumental in building the stifling defense with players like: Nick Bosa, Richard Sherman and Dee Ford along with offensive studs like Deebo Samuel, Jimmy G and George Kittle.
The 49ers are trying to contend each season in a stacked NFC division and with Lynch at the helm they won’t be going anywhere but up moving forward.
