Yesterday, the 2020 NFL Draft First Round was completed and per usual there were surprises, no-brainers and just plain head-scratchers throughout the round. Today, I will look at the best pick, surprise pick, steal of the draft, most questionable pick and bust pick: Chris’s Corner Edition.
Best Pick: Besides the obvious of Chase Young to the Redskins and Jeff Okudah to the Lions, I would say Patrick Queen (LSU Linebacker) to the Baltimore Ravens.
Surprise Pick: This was tough as there were many surprising picks but the Packers traded up to select highly buzzed Jordan Love (Utah State Quarterback) as a potential replacement to Aaron Rodgers was the absolute stunner of the night.
Steal-of-the-Draft: For Oklahoma superstar receiver CeeDee Lamb to drop the Cowboys has to be steal for an already loaded Dallas offense.
Most Questionable Pick: The Giants taking Andrew Thomas instead of addressing their defense was mind-fumblingly to say the least. Eagles taking Jalen Reagor when Justin Jefferson, Denzel Mims and Chase Claypool was a head scratcher too.
Bust Pick: I hate to do this because it's rude but if my chips are all on the table, Justin Herbert to the Chargers. He is the fifth Oregon QB taken in the first round and not a single one of them has smelled success in the NFL.
Fun Facts of the First Round:
The SEC made history as the first conference to ever have 15 players selected in the First Round (six in the top ten) in an NFL Draft.
Isaiah Simmons becomes the second player since running back great Darren Sproles to be drafted from Olathe North in Olathe, Kansas.
Henry Ruggs III and Jerry Jeudy become the first wide receiver duo in Alabama history to be selected in the First Round of the NFL draft.
Justin Herbert becomes the fifth Oregon quarterback selected in the First Round in the NFL Draft since the merger (1967). All have combined for just two Pro Bowl appearances.
With Joe Burrow being selected No. 1 LSU becomes the only school to have No. 1 Picks in all four drafts. (NBA, NFL, WNBA, MLB).
Joe Burrow becomes just the fifth player ever to win a National Championship, win the Heisman trophy then get selected with No. 1 pick of the NFL Draft. He joins Cam Newton, Jameis Winston, Leon Hart and Angelo Bertelli.
Green Bay Packers haven't selected an offense-pick in the first round in 15 seasons (Aaron Rodgers-2005).
